Another woman with coronavirus dies in Lanzarote, bringing the number of deaths on the island to six

She was admitted to the hospital but had already been discharged and was receiving care at home. In addition, this Friday at least one other positive case of a new patient has also been confirmed.

An 84-year-old woman who had been diagnosed with Covid-19 has died this Friday in Lanzarote, bringing the total number of deaths recorded on the island since the beginning of the pandemic to six.

The deceased had been admitted to the Molina Orosa Hospital but had already been discharged and was still being cared for at her home, in the municipality of Tinajo, first by primary care and the geriatrics service and in recent days also by the palliative care unit.

Her case was one of the 11 that remained active on the island until Friday morning and, specifically, of the six that were receiving care in their homes. The other five remain hospitalized, three on the ward and two in the Intensive Care Unit.

However, the Health Services Management has confirmed that this Friday at least one other positive case has also been confirmed, in a 75-year-old person, after 13 days without detecting new cases. In addition, they were awaiting the result of another test of a patient "suspected" of Covid-19.

Other five deaths since March 24

This is the first death recorded on the island in two weeks, as the last death took place on April 24. On that occasion, the deceased was a 74-year-old woman from Lanzarote who had been admitted to the ICU of the Molina Orosa Hospital for a month. The previous death occurred two days earlier, on April 22, and the victim was a 69-year-old man from Lanzarote.

As for the first three deaths, they occurred between March 24 and 27. The first was a 71-year-old German man residing in Yaiza and the second a 80-year-old British man; while the third was an 80-year-old woman from Lanzarote.
