The Lanzarote architect Miguel Ángel Fontes Figuera has taken office as a member of the Superior Council of Associations of Architects of Spain, representing the Canary Islands Council of Associations of Architects.

The inauguration took place in the Plenary Session held this Thursday, October 14, at the Parador de Sigüenza, coinciding with the CSCAE's support for the candidacy of this city as a World Heritage Site.

To represent the Canary Islands before this highest collegiate body, Miguel Ángel Fontes Figuera, current Dean of the Official College of Architects of Lanzarote, was previously appointed president of the Canary Islands Council of Architects on October 1

The Canary Islands Council is made up of the 5 Colleges of Architects of the Canary Islands: Official College of Architects of Gran Canaria, Official College of Architects of Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro, Official College of Architects of Lanzarote, Official College of Architects of Fuerteventura and Official College of Architects of La Palma.

The Canary Islands Council of Architects is a Public Law Corporation whose purpose is to group and coordinate the actions of the Colleges of Architects of the Canary Islands, to represent the profession before any organization, institution or entity in its territorial scope and before the Superior Council of Colleges of Architects of Spain.

The Superior Council of Associations of Architects of Spain was created by Decree of June 13, 1931 and is the body that brings together all the Colleges for the achievement of the purposes of general common interest. Likewise, it is the body representing the Colleges and the profession before public and private corporations, and before international organizations.

Being appointed president of the Canary Islands Council, he is responsible for representing the Canary Islands before the Superior Council of Associations of Architects of Spain as a counselor, a position he will hold for two years.

Miguel Ángel Fontes states that this is "a new challenge" in his professional career that he faces "with great enthusiasm". "A few years ago it was unthinkable that a member of Lanzarote could hold a position like this, but since we established the Canary Islands Council of Architects, we started a new professional stage of dialogue and teamwork of all the Colleges of Architects of the Canary Islands. We were aware that if we worked as a team we would achieve greater goals," Fontes emphasizes.
