Alférez Cabrera Tavío Street will remain closed to traffic during the Christmas holidays, "at the request of the merchants in the area." This was explained this Thursday by the Councilor for Commerce of Arrecife, Rafael Juan González, who recalled that "although the Master Plan for the promotion of Open Commercial Zones 'Arrecife, the Port', contemplates the pedestrianization and definitive closure of the aforementioned road, for the moment it will only be closed during the holidays."

In this way, operators of the capital's City Council proceeded on Thursday morning to install the Christmas ornaments and the red carpet that covers the entire road from the intersection with José Antonio Street to the beginning of Canalejas Street.

Rafael Juan González has thanked "the trust placed by the businessmen with establishments in this central street of the city in the initiative", which his Council promoted last year. "In Christmas 2013, the closure of the road was proposed as a pilot experience and it is clear that the results were positive, since this year it has been the merchants themselves who have requested it," he stressed.

For his part, the Councilor for Traffic, Jacobo Lemes, recalled that access to the area is fully guaranteed. "If necessary, emergency vehicles can access through Otilia Díaz Street. Similarly, users of the Boulevard Spínola parking lot can reach it through Fajardo and José Betancort streets, which are properly signposted," the councilor reported.
