Alberto Acosta will interview Luis Vidal, the architect who designed the Queen's Terminal at Heathrow Airport, London

This Monday, May 25, on La Destiladera, Alberto Acosta will interview the prestigious architect Luis Vidal, to analyze in detail and with precision what the future of air traffic is after the arrival of Covid 19, and the opening to international passenger traffic, starting in July as announced by President Sánchez last week.

The keys to the island's economy depend on knowing what will become of its community with Europe, and therefore what will happen to air traffic and, of course, to airports.

Luis Vidal

Luis Vidal (Spain, 1969) is an architect registered with RIBA (United Kingdom), COAM (Spain) and AIA (United States). He studied architecture at the University of Greenwich (London, United Kingdom), where he graduated with honors in 1994. In 2004 he founded luis vidal + arquitectos, a global architecture studio based in Madrid with offices in Spain, Chile, the Dominican Republic and the United States. Currently he has an international team of more than 180 architects with solid training and experience in diverse and complementary disciplines. Together with his studio, which has just turned 16 and has won more than 45 international awards, Vidal has developed more than 200 projects on all scales, from urban planning to industrial design. He has gained international recognition for implementing challenging ideas for the cities of the present and the future, the so-called "megacities", which includes large-scale complex buildings, such as airports, hospitals, offices, museums and university campuses.

His most awarded project is the Queen's Terminal at London Heathrow Airport -Terminal 2-, the first airport terminal in the world to obtain a BREEAM Excellent for its sustainable design capable of reducing CO2 emissions by 40%. It has been named "Best Airport Terminal in the World" at the Skytrax Awards (2018), "Airport of the Year" at the 2015 Air Transport World Annual Awards (ATW) and "Best Public Building in the World" 2014-2015, distinctions that add to a list of more than 24 awards and nominations. Among his current airport works, his projects in the United States stand out, specifically at the airports of Dallas, Pittsburgh, Boston and Denver. In Chile, his studio leads the expansion of the Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in Santiago (in collaboration with ADPI).

All his constructed buildings have been awarded. His works stand out for their flexibility, cutting-edge technology, environmental responsibility and efficiency, thus improving the user experience.

Luis Vidal is a member of the Industry Advisory Board at the University of Cranfield (London). He has also been an associate professor of projects and architectural design at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Madrid (ETSAM) for five years, as well as a guest and member of the jury in prestigious centers such as the Bartlett School of Architecture (London). He is frequently requested as an international speaker for his knowledge in large airport and healthcare infrastructures, and as a thinker of the cities of the future.
