The airline Canaryfly and the Canarian association Kilómetros por Sonrisas have joined forces so that 30 people with cancer and rare diseases can enjoy a few days of rest on the island of La Graciosa accompanied by their families.

This activity is part of the Descansa project, a pioneering initiative that provides respite for families who are immersed in such difficult processes.

The Descansa project emerged in September 2022 with the aim of expanding the focus beyond the child affected by the disease, also encompassing their family environment, since the siblings, parents and grandparents of these children are affected by the circumstances of their diseases, both physically and psychologically.

For this reason, Kilómetros por Sonrisas has launched this project, in collaboration with Canaryfly and Líneas Marítimas Romero, providing families with the opportunity to enjoy valuable time for disconnection and reunion.

“The Descansa project is a major milestone within our association,” declares Christian Ramadán, president of the entity. “We sincerely appreciate the collaboration of Canaryfly and Líneas Marítimas Romero. Their support has been essential to carry out this initiative, which we hope will provide a positive and significant impact to the families who need it most," indicates Ramadán.

For his part, the commercial and marketing director of Canaryfly, Jon Ramsden, highlights the relevance of corporate social responsibility and the airline's dedication to the archipelago. "At Canaryfly we find it very rewarding to collaborate with Kilómetros por Sonrisas, as it is important for us to contribute to the well-being of Canarian families, especially those who are going through such difficult times," he says.

Through this initiative, Canaryfly and Líneas Romero express their solid support for families facing diseases as harsh as childhood cancer and rare diseases.
