Two students from the Canary Islands, Haridian Betancort Martín from IES Zonzamas (Lanzarote) and Jade Vega Pueyo from IES Poeta Tomás Morales Castellanos (Gran Canaria) are in Brussels this week. Both are part of the delegation representing Spain at the European Youth Conference 'Let's Take Care of the Planet (Confint)', which began this Thursday and will conclude on Saturday. At this meeting, the commitment of youth to local sustainability will be highlighted. Accompanying both students is Tania Armas Núñez, a teacher at IES Zonzamas.

"Participation in Confint is an educational opportunity for young people to share experiences, reflect and express their opinion to the authorities, thus addressing all those issues related to the sustainability of their environment, in particular, and the planet, in general," explain from the Ministry of Education.

On the other hand, their participation will give them the opportunity to collaborate in an international project at different levels (school, regional, state and European), "where the union of global thinking and local transformative action becomes a constant reality." They also contribute to the dissemination of innovative practices, experiences and materials, all with the aim of promoting actions related to sustainable development.

In this activity, young people from various centers in the Canary Islands belonging to the Network of Educational Centers for Sustainability (RedECOS) and from other autonomous communities belonging to the National Network of Schools towards Sustainability (ESenRed), meet with students from other European countries to share and discuss good practices developed in this educational field.

The participation of the Canarian representation in the European Confint has been made possible thanks to the financial aid provided by the CajaCanarias Foundation and the La Caixa Foundation, which signed an agreement with the Ministry of Education, Universities and Sustainability to support environmental projects framed within the REdECOS.
