Rafael Real is still amazed by the seed potato he found last Thursday. When, like every afternoon, he went for a walk and collect potatoes near Caleta de Famara, he did not imagine that he would find a specimen of no less than 415 grams.
"In other years I picked them small and this year it was so big that when I took it out it looked like a sweet potato. I thought I was confused," he explained on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero. The months of March and April are both season to collect this native variety of potato, which is characterized precisely by its small size.
This year, however, Rafael says that he has found several especially large ones. Rafael believes that this unusual fact may be due to "the rain we have had" in recent months, which has also fallen in unusual quantities. In any case, this neighbor is clear: "I am not going to sell it, it will only be for consumption. We make them with garlic and they are very tasty."
