The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women ended this Monday in Lanzarote with a concentration in Arrecife. After the minute of silence that took place in many entities and public administrations of the island, in the afternoon several events were held in front of the old Cabildo, organized by the Forum against Gender Violence of Lanzarote.
From the area known as the four corners, the participants carried banners claiming rejection of gender violence during a short tour that reached the vicinity of the old Cabildo. There, the reading of the manifesto signed by the public institutions was carried out, at the request of the Canary Federation of Municipalities (FECAM).
The motto of the concentration was "For the life and freedom of women. No to gender violence!". Among other messages, slogans rejecting violence and in memory of the victims could be read on the banners.
In this location there was also a floral offering in memory of each of the women and minors victims of gender violence on the island and a performance was developed, among others, such as the exhibition of a video and a musical performance.
The event was supported by numerous people and public authorities of the island, including the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, the first vice president of the Corporation, Joaquín Caraballo, and the Minister of Social Welfare, Marciano Acuña, among other authorities of the first Island Corporation and of the town halls and other entities. Also present were the two presidents of the women's associations of the island, Nieves Rosa Hernández, from Mararía, and Vicenta Monge, from Tiemar, among other representatives and members of groups of the island society.
