In commemoration of the Day of San Juan de Dios, patron saint of firefighters, the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote held an event this Friday to highlight the work of different personnel.
During the ceremony, recognitions were given to the firefighters who voluntarily participated in the extinction efforts of the latest fires that took place on the islands of La Palma and Tenerife, in July and August of last year respectively. Similarly, and in gratitude for the collaboration in the services provided, tribute has been paid to the staff of the Canary Emergency Service (SUC).
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, congratulated the firefighters "for the great work they do daily to safeguard security in Lanzarote and La Graciosa." "They undoubtedly represent the identity of Lanzarote, the commitment and solidarity that our firefighters always demonstrate in bad times," he added.
For his part, the president of the Security and Emergency Consortium, Francisco Aparicio, congratulated the 49 firefighters who make up the corps "for their dedication and skill during the last year." "Thank you for flawlessly executing each of the outings and services you perform daily, thanks to you we have managed to save lives and avoid greater misfortunes," he pointed out.
The event, which was presented by journalist Laura San José, was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Territorial Cohesion and Water of the Government of the Canary Islands, Marcos Lorenzo; the Vice President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jacobo Medina; the general director of the School of Health and Social Services of the Canary Islands (ESSSCAN), José Montelongo; and the head of the Lanzarote Fire Station, José Domingo Crespo.
