The Sentirte Association denounces the suspension of the adapted transportation service that until now has been facilitating the weekly commutes of students from the Aulas Enclave [Special Education Classrooms] in the municipality of Teguise, an essential resource to guarantee their participation in sports activities outside the center, since they do not have physical education at the center.
This service, which had been developing every year, "has not started in the current school year, leaving many families without a basic tool that allowed their sons and daughters to attend this sports activity, vital for their stimulation."
"We deeply regret that a resource that promotes inclusion, autonomy, and equal opportunities for these minors has been interrupted without foresight or alternatives," says Sentirte.
The association recalls that "the offer of municipal services adapted for children with special educational needs is already very limited, so the disappearance of this transportation represents a further setback in the construction of inclusive environments."
"Families should not have to bear additional travel and costs so that their sons and daughters can access educational and therapeutic activities on equal terms. Inclusion cannot depend on the goodwill or resources of each family," they emphasize.
Lucía Gómez, vice president of the Sentirte Association, has demanded "the immediate restitution of the service and has requested that stable mechanisms be established to avoid situations like this one." "Every time a resource like this is interrupted, a part of the progress of these boys and girls is also interrupted. Inclusion cannot wait, much less depend on political decisions. We ask for sensitivity, commitment, and stability in the support that makes their development and well-being possible," she concludes.
