The Cabildo of Lanzarote has developed four road safety education programs with students from 3rd to 6th grade, with the main objective of "promoting healthy habits" among the youngest population.

'Safe School Route', 'Students in the Road Environment', '15-Minute Cities' and 'Your Example Educates' have been the four projects launched by the 'Road Safety Education Service of the Cabildo of Lanzarote'.

The Councilor of the Road Safety Education Service, Aroa Revelo, details that what is intended through these four programs is to "promote nearby trips such as going to school, doing sports, going to extracurricular activities or going to stores, as if it were a walk."

Aroa Revelo adds that "walking to everyday places of proximity improves our cognitive, emotional, and physical health, and that is why it is essential to start these habits in walking mode from childhood and adolescence, as it will help to have better health throughout life."

From the Cabildo, "we are aware of the important role of active and healthy travel in childhood" and of "promoting their autonomy in their trips to school, knowing how they move, what problems they see, what they need, and what favors them."

The main objectives of these educational programs are to know the "situation of travel, promote walking, raise awareness of the use of bicycles as a preferred means of transport as a concept of active, healthy, and sustainable travel." In addition, "promote knowledge processes, specific training, and didactic tools for the search for comprehensive solutions that lead to new models of active cities as well as healthy travel."

In this way, an activity has been chosen for each grade involved. The 'Safe School Route' is aimed at third-grade students; 'Students in the Road Environment', for fourth-grade children; '15-Minute Cities', for fifth-grade students, and 'Your Example Educates', for sixth-grade students.
