Puerto Calero has raised this Wednesday its thirtieth Blue Flag in an institutional act that underlines its commitment to sustainability and tourist excellence. Representing the Yaiza City Council were the mayor Óscar Noda, the councilor of Beaches Beatriz Vázquez and the councilor of Environment Águeda Cedrés. On behalf of Calero Marinas, its president José Calero and the director of the marina, Alex Betancor, attended.
The Blue Flag distinction, granted by the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), evaluates each year rigorous criteria of water quality, environmental management, safety, accessibility and environmental education. Puerto Calero has not only exceeded these requirements in 2025, but has done so uninterruptedly for 30 years, positioning itself as one of the most awarded marinas in the Canary Islands, only behind Puerto de Mogán (Gran Canaria).
José Calero, president of Calero Marinas, highlighted the significance of this milestone: “Reaching 30 Blue Flags is not the result of chance. Behind it there is a daily work, a clear conviction that respect for the environment and the quality of our facilities are inseparable. This marina was born 40 years ago with a very clear vision, and that vision remains intact: to take care of the environment, to bet on
sustainability and always offer the best to those who visit us”.
This anniversary coincides with a key year for Puerto Calero, which celebrates its 40th anniversary as a pioneering infrastructure in Lanzarote's nautical sports, renewing its commitment to the island and quality tourism. Óscar Noda, mayor of Yaiza, highlighted the importance of this recognition for the municipality: “This new raising of the Blue Flag in the waters of Puerto Calero demonstrates the firm commitment of this family business to the municipality of Yaiza and to the environment. From the City Council we congratulate, as it could not be otherwise, Puerto Calero for its tireless work in preserving the quality of our waters in total connivance and collaboration with the City Council of Yaiza”.
Puerto Calero is thus consolidated as a reference in Lanzarote and in the national sphere, by integrating modernization, service and environmental responsibility in the same long-term vision.
The raising ceremony served not only to celebrate the new award, but also to publicly reaffirm Puerto Calero's commitment to the environmental future of the island and the nautical sector as a whole.
