Aimed especially at women's self-protection, the Yaiza City Council and the 'Wolves Squad' martial arts sports club held a personal defense techniques workshop in Playa Blanca last Friday. Immobilization workshops based on jiu-jitsu, an event promoted by the Department of Civil Protection and Citizen Security within the municipal program commemorating the 'International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women'.
The councilor responsible for the area, Beatriz Vázquez, describes the experience as "a very participatory outdoor day where not only women linked to the club were present, who always have the will to expand their knowledge, but also residents of our municipality with an interest in getting started in personal defense."
The instructors developed a "dynamic training" on personal defense skills aimed at subduing alleged aggressors, putting into practice techniques to resolve intimidation, grabs, blows and other types of aggressions that women could suffer both on the street and in their own homes.
New Belts
And if Friday was intense, the 'Wolves' club also had activity on Saturday, a special and exciting day for children, young people and adults practicing jiu-jitsu who, surrounded by their families and by the municipal representation, received their graduation and the change of belt color that represents their evolution in combat skills and in the integral exercise of the sports discipline.
