José Juan Cruz, the first deputy mayor, Nicolás Saavedra, and the Councilor for Education, Miriam Hernández, visited the free "summer schools" this Thursday morning, which are being held from June 26 to September 6 in the schools of Tías and Puerto del Carmen.
Promoted by the Tías City Council, the summer activities, which have benefited 375 children from the municipality, were proposed to help families reconcile their work schedules with the care and attention of their children.
For this reason, many families in the municipality have been able to take their children from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., to the facilities of the Alcalde Rafael Cedrés Infant and Primary Education Centers (CEIP), in Tías, and Concepción Rodríguez Artiles, in Puerto del Carmen.
Throughout the summer, workshops, games, tournaments and excursions organized by the 'Maramar' association, led by Araceli Marín, Marta Moreno and David Hassan, have been taking place together with a group of 14 monitors, one of them specialized in the care of children with special needs.
'Enjoy an inclusive summer' is the name of the project developed by Maramar with the children of the municipality. Its members explained to the municipal representatives the work they have carried out with the little ones, who are between 3 and 4 years old (born in 2019) up to 14 years old.
In addition to the inclusive work that welcomes children with special needs and integrates them into generic groups, the team of monitors has worked during these months on diverse themes, mostly related to multiculturalism and the environment.
The little ones have received training on renewable energies, recycling, reducing consumption, living with different cultures, respecting different identities, kind behavior and tolerance.
This project, subsidized by the Tías City Council, has allowed the children of the municipality to also enjoy excursions to the Amavir Tías dependent elderly residence, Rancho Texas, Aquapark, the interpretation center of the bay of Arrecife and the Charco de San Ginés, with activities such as paddle surfing and kayaking.
The teams from the Alternating Training Plans with Employment (PFAE) Dinamiza Tías and Playas Seguras III and Dinamiza Tías, the Canary Health Service (SCS), the Flora Acoge Canarian Foundation and the UNESCO Lanzarote and Chinijo Archipelago World Geopark have collaborated in some activities.
