The Ministry of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, directed by Migdalia Machín, has approved a direct subsidy of 80,000 euros to the Cabildo of Lanzarote to launch an Island Digital Training Center (CICD). This initiative is part of the strategy to promote the digital economy coordinated by the Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation and the Information Society (ACIISI), and aims to bring technology closer to citizens and strengthen the digitalization of the economic and social fabric.
The new center will be located in the Island Library of Lanzarote and will be equipped with state-of-the-art technological equipment, such as laptops, virtual reality glasses, 3D printers and interactive screens. The project also includes the acquisition of furniture, dissemination campaigns and the organization of training on artificial intelligence, digital marketing and other key tools.
“Lanzarote must be a protagonist in the digital transformation that we are promoting throughout the Canary Islands. This center is part of a strategy that puts the resources where they are most needed, with an island perspective that guarantees real opportunities for all people, wherever they live,” said Migdalia Machín.
The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has received this initiative as an opportunity to continue developing public policies that connect technology with daily life, especially in areas such as employment and training.
The president of the Island Corporation, Oswaldo Betancort, has valued this action as “an investment that puts innovation at the service of citizens and that aligns with our vision of a connected, prepared island with more tools for the future.” “We thank the Government of the Canary Islands for its direct involvement in making this center a reality. Betting on digital training is betting on equal opportunities,” he added.
The classroom, with capacity for 80 people and the possibility of adapting to different formats, will allow the development of activities focused on experience and practical learning, incorporating resources such as virtual reality or 3D printing.
This financing will allow the Cabildo to begin the execution of the project and offer citizens a modern, functional space prepared to accompany the digitalization processes that are already part of everyday life.
