This Wednesday a 'Caretta caretta' turtle was found dead on Famara beach. According to witnesses who told La Voz, the cause of the animal's death was probably the ingestion of some plastic.
The bathers who found the turtle on the beach are calling for Lanzarote to have "a sustainable waste management plan", something that the island "clearly" lacks. In addition, they recall that there is a "real threat" in the unsustainable waste management to the fauna in Lanzarote. They send a message "of awareness" to the island's population.
They criticize the lack of awareness in society. "It seems that we are not aware." A situation that they know they cannot remedy: "we feel powerless not knowing what to do", they say.
