The Víctor Fernández Gopar “El Salinero” Theater hosted this Tuesday the inaugural conference of the 2025-2026 academic year, which was given by the social educator and writer, Sara Desirée Ruíz, under the motto What's happening to adolescents. Learn to communicate with the adolescents in your life. The meeting, which was attended by around 400 people, served as the starting point for the new school year in Lanzarote.

The conference, promoted by the Education Area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, served as the opening of the school year on the island, leaving a common message about the need to strengthen communication ties between adolescents, families, and educators to build healthier and more enriching relationships.

The Minister of Education, Ascensión Toledo, who attended the talk, shared a reflection by the philosopher Socrates in which youth were already being described back then as we do today, with difficulties in making themselves understood. "The basis of a good relationship is understanding, and from the island institutions we must encourage this type of activity," she stressed.

For more than an hour and a half, Ruiz shared, in a close and practical way, reflections on the importance of listening to young people, understanding their changes, and finding new forms of dialogue in a vital stage that is often complex. Her direct and dynamic style quickly connected with the audience, who responded with great interest to the experiences, examples, and tools that she presented.

The speaker, with more than 27 years of experience and author of several reference books, offered tools to better understand this vital stage and foster relationships based on respect and active listening.
