The Civil Guard of the Las Palmas Command, has culminated an operation that has resulted in the seizure of 3,492 bottles of derivative beverages, mainly international liqueurs, which were ready for distribution without complying with the legal and fiscal requirements demanded by current regulations. The merchandise, which amounted to a total volume of 1,674.55 liters, has been valued at 44,112 euros.
During the inspection of the warehouse, agents from the specialized unit of the Fiscal and Borders Patrol (PAFIF) proceeded to the technical verification of the stored beverages. The police work was notable for the use of state-of-the-art scanning tools that allowed for a quick and effective check that a large part of the merchandise lacked the fiscal seal or bore stamps that, upon analysis, showed a flagrant breach of tax regulations.
Specifically, varieties of lychee liqueurs, high-proof sorghum spirits (up to 62%), and cinnamon liqueurs were seized, among others, all of them with serious irregularities in their labeling and sealing.
The investigations carried out led to the identification of the investigated individual, who is listed as responsible for the establishment and administrative management of the merchandise. Thanks to the operational speed of the agents, the entire batch was immobilized before it could be distributed in the retail market, thus avoiding greater harm to the health of consumers, as these were products that evaded official traceability controls.
The Civil Guard has proceeded to the precautionary seizure of the bottles, which have been sealed at the distribution center itself at the disposal of the competent authority.
The proceedings initiated, consisting of an act for infraction of Law 38/1992 on Special Taxes, have been sent to the Regional Department of Customs and Special Taxes of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for the initiation of the corresponding sanctioning procedure.
These cases are particularly dangerous, not only due to the evident tax evasion but also due to the health risk involved in consuming alcoholic beverages that have not passed through official control channels. The absence of legal seals is often the first indicator of adulterated or clandestinely manufactured products, whose chemical composition can be highly harmful to the human body.
