Veronica's stepmother had criminology books and newspaper clippings about murders in her home in Tinajo

The chilling search of Veronica's family's home, where burnt human bones were found hidden in a bag, also yielded other sinister findings. National Police agents, who have visited the house several times since Tuesday of last week in search of new evidence, found newspaper clippings about crimes and murders and criminology and police and forensic investigation books in the house.

Apparently, this material belonged to Veronica's stepmother, Carmen Delia, who is charged with homicide and/or concealment, within the case opened for the alleged murder of the young woman. Sources close to the investigation have told La Voz that when asked about the newspaper clippings and specialized crime books, Carmen Delia replied that she had them because she wanted to study Criminology. However, agents have verified that there is no record of her having enrolled to take those alleged studies.

On the other hand, agents also found different elements of Santeria in the house, and recorded this in the police report. In addition, they seized other documents that may provide data to this investigation.

Contradictory versions

With the evidence gathered during the searches, investigators will try to shed light on a case marked by the contradictory statements of those involved and by the death of one of the main defendants, Veronica's father, who died last Monday. Before dying, José Luis M. made a statement and denied having mistreated his children, thus contradicting the versions that his wife and her children had given up to that moment.

Veronica's stepmother and stepbrother, both in pre-trial detention for these events, blamed the father and even claimed that he got his daughter pregnant. ["He told me not to worry, that he would solve it"->75501], the stepmother said in the statement. However, this also clashes with the statements made to La Voz by Veronica's only blood brother, who also lived a childhood hell in that home, until he was sent to a juvenile center. According to his version, his father never laid a hand on them and it was the stepmother who supposedly mistreated them, and both she and her children subjected them to various humiliations.

After the death of the father, there are three people charged with these events: two of Veronica's step-siblings, one of them in pre-trial detention and the other released on charges, and the stepmother. In the case of the latter, the judge doubts her version, since he has not only charged her with concealment, but also considers that she could be responsible for a crime of homicide.
