The strong wind that is being recorded this Monday on the island has knocked down the symbol of the Mirador del Río, made of iron and located at the doors of this Tourist Center, according to reports from the Cabildo.
The new CEO of the Centers, Benjamín Perdomo, believes that the incident, which occurred first thing in the morning, is "a faithful reflection of the total abandonment to which César Manrique's main spatial work has been subjected during the last decade by the previous management, more concerned with projects of relative interest than with caring for and attending to the true essence and reason for being of the Centers".
Perdomo has thanked the "rapid intervention" of the Centers' maintenance team, which traveled "immediately" to the Mirador del Río to, pending the relevant report from the Cabildo's Heritage Department, proceed to remove the center's symbol, which will be subjected to a review to assess structural damage.
From the Centers it is highlighted that the popular and original image of a bird and a fish is the same as it has been since it was installed on a stone structure at the inauguration of the Mirador del Río in 1973.
