The impact of storm Therese already leaves its first visible consequences in Lanzarote. In the coastal town of Punta Mujeres, the strong swell has caused significant damage to the promenade, where part of the wall has been seriously affected after the continuous onslaught of the waves.

Residents of the area have indicated that the force of the sea has been especially intense during the last hours, reaching to overcome the wall in several points and causing damage to the infrastructure. The situation has generated concern among the residents, who fear that the damages could worsen if the adverse conditions persist.

This episode coincides with the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), which has activated yellow warnings on the island for coastal phenomena and wind. For this Saturday, gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour are expected, especially in inland areas, with southwest wind that will blow from moderate to strong and with very intense intervals from mid-morning.

In the sea, force seven swell is expected, with winds between 50 and 61 kilometers per hour and waves that can reach five meters in height, which explains the violence of the impact on the coast of Punta Mujeres.

Additionally, the day will be marked by weak to moderate precipitation, which could be accompanied by storms during the central hours of the day. Temperatures will remain without significant changes.

Looking ahead to Sunday, the instability will continue, with cloudy intervals and occasional rains of moderate intensity. The wind will continue blowing from the southwest with strong gusts, especially on southeast and northwest slopes, although it will tend to subside from mid-morning onwards.

Authorities recommend extreme caution in coastal areas given the state of the sea and avoiding transit through areas near the coast affected by the swell.
