Representatives of the Social and Cultural Association of Senegalese in Lanzarote "Gente Unida" and the Mira y Piensa en África Association (AMPA) observed two minutes of silence this Monday as a sign of mourning and rejection of gender violence, following the death last Wednesday in Puerto del Carmen of Mara Serighelli, who allegedly died at the hands of her partner, a man of Senegalese origin. Mor Ndao confessed to being the perpetrator of the crime and the judge ordered his provisional imprisonment, after charging him with homicide.
The event was supported by Senegalese associations and organizations in Spain, and was also attended by the mayor of Tías, José Francisco Hernández, as well as the first deputy mayor of the municipality, Jerónimo Robayna. Previously, a manifesto was read in which "zero tolerance for sexist violence" was expressed.
