The owner of a mechanical workshop in San Bartolomé arrested for an alleged crime of fraud

According to the Civil Guard, he is the alleged perpetrator of five frauds, in which he asked the victims for money in advance for repairs that he then did not carry out.

The owner of a mechanic shop in San Bartolomé has been arrested for an alleged fraud offense.

The Civil Guard of San Bartolomé arrested a man of Spanish nationality on June 20 as the alleged perpetrator of five scams for a total amount of 3,000 euros. According to the Benemérita, the arrested person "allegedly requested money in advance with the alleged purpose of carrying out a series of vehicle repairs that he ultimately did not fulfill."

The investigation began when, at the beginning of this month of June, a complaint was received informing the Civil Guard about an alleged case of fraud in a mechanical workshop in the municipality of San Bartolomé. The affected party stated in his complaint that he had left his vehicle last April at the premises, where they demanded an advance payment for the purchase of spare parts, although they did not give him any invoice or document. Weeks later, the complainant stated that he withdrew his vehicle without any repairs being carried out.

The agents initiated the corresponding investigations in order to verify the described crime, also verifying that the same business had been simultaneously reported for similar cases.

The total amount of money delivered amounts to almost 3,000 euros

From the analysis of the documentation collected, the statement of several witnesses and the police investigations carried out, the Civil Guard observed how the detainee allegedly always followed "the same criminal sequence." According to the Benemérita, the owner of the workshop requested money as an advance for the repair, without providing any document of said delivery or of the entry of the vehicle into the workshop, gave an initial verbal information claiming to know the reason for the breakdown and that he had the solution, but then days or even weeks passed and the repair was not carried out. Therefore, the victims lost the money they had advanced.

In addition, one of the victims informed the agents that his vehicle had left the aforementioned workshop with 3,000 kilometers more. For all these reasons, the Civil Guard arrested this person for an alleged crime of fraud, remaining at the disposal of the corresponding Arrecife Duty Court.
