The National Police dismantles a criminal organization that introduced drugs in Lanzarote

A total of 11 house searches have been carried out in Arrecife, Madrid and Gerona in which 3 kilos of cocaine, 3 kilos of heroin were seized, more than 62,000 euros were seized and 15 people were arrested.

 National Police agents have arrested in Arrecife, Madrid and Gerona 15 people between 27 and 66 years of age, 13 of them with police records, as alleged perpetrators of crimes against public health and criminal organization.

In the last months of last year and the first of the present, the National Police detected upon arrival at the César Manrique airport in Lanzarote, a total of seven people (all of them originally from Guinea Bissau and Portugal) who tried to introduce narcotic substances hidden inside their body or luggage.

An investigation was then initiated that allowed to uncover the presence on the island of a criminal organization with ramifications in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid) and Salt (Gerona), dedicated to the trafficking of cocaine and heroin on the island.

The agents were able to determine that the main investigated, a 53-year-old Nigerian man, residing in Gerona, organized the sending of mules that transported narcotic substances to Lanzarote via Paris, where it was delivered to the rest of the investigated for adulteration and retail sale.

Last March and with the collaboration of the Portuguese authorities, 40,000 euros in cash were seized inside a suitcase, from the sale of narcotic substances on the island and destined for Portugal.

Searches in Lanzarote, Madrid and Gerona

Finally, on April 4, a series of eleven house searches began, nine of them in Lanzarote, another in Madrid and a last one in Gerona with a final result of 15 detainees (originally from Guinea Bissau, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Morocco and the Dominican Republic) and, 62,200 euros seized and 3 kilos of cocaine seized, in addition to 3 kilos of heroin.

The final result of the operation carried out by the National Police has been a total of 22 people arrested and the seizure of 11 kilos of cocaine and 3.6 kilos of heroin.

The police investigation had the direction and coordination of the Investigating Court No. 2 of Arrecife and the collaboration of the Anti-Drug Prosecutor's Office.

Once the police operation was completed, the 15 detainees were placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority, who ordered the imprisonment of 7 of them.
