National Police agents have arrested a 41-year-old man with no prior police record in Yaiza, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of damage (container fire). He is the alleged perpetrator of the fires committed in Arrecife, Costa Teguise, Playa Honda and Puerto del Carmen. The damages caused amount to more than 140,000 euros, with a total of 118 containers burned.
The incipient and repeated burning of containers on the island of Lanzarote led to the initiation of an investigation by officials from the Local Judicial Police Brigade of the Arrecife Police Station.
The investigation made it possible to determine that the detainee had been the perpetrator of the fires committed on the island in recent months, even to the point that, at the time of the arrest, he spontaneously stated to the agents that he was the perpetrator of the fires committed in other municipalities on the island.
The arrested man, residing in Playa Honda, used a bicycle as a means of transport, with which he traveled through the coastal areas, avenues and bike lanes, to commit the crimes and immediately return to his home.
For all that happened, he was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of damage and placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority.
