The Animal and Environmental Protection Unit of the Local Police of Arrecife has dismantled a farm-breeding ground in Argana Alta with more than a hundred animals "in an extreme state of malnutrition." In addition, the Local Police followed the trail of the suspect in this situation who, according to the City Council, was arrested and has been convicted in a quick trial "for animal abuse and lack of documentation of the breeding ground."
The statement explains that there were "dogs, pigs, rabbits, sheep, turkeys, chickens and pheasants that suffered obvious symptoms of continued abuse on the Arrecife farm." In addition, "the animals lacked water and suffered from extreme thinness."
In fact, the municipal veterinary technician, whose presence was required at the facilities, certified the facts and described the hygienic conditions as "terrible."
The authorities consider it the "worst case of farm animal abuse to date in Arrecife" due to the "extreme situation of the animals."
Months of monitoring
The Animal Protection Unit of the Local Police had been monitoring for several months on suspicion of abuse, the situation being more serious as these farms did not have the regulated documentation for it.
The Councilor for Local Police of Arrecife, David Duarte, has congratulated the agents "for their effort and perseverance in this case to uncover a cruelty that cannot be tolerated under any circumstances." "In Arrecife we are proud to have a unit of these characteristics to protect those who cannot defend themselves," he added.
Duarte has encouraged citizens to report this type of intolerable and inhumane acts to the Local Police, "where specialized agents can take charge of each case."
