The driver of the fatal accident that took place last Friday on the old Playa Blanca road is an agent of the Civil Guard. This has been confirmed to La Voz by the Benemérita itself, which has indicated that this agent "was not on duty" when the events occurred and that she tested "negative" in the alcohol and drug tests that were carried out after the accident. Although it is still "in progress", the Civil Guard's investigation considers the "irregular intrusion" of this pedestrian on the road as the "probable cause" of the accident.
The accident occurred around 11 a.m. last Friday. At that time, 112 received the alert that a hit-and-run had occurred on the LZ-701 and sent medical personnel to the area in two ambulances. Upon arrival, the paramedics found the man, about 60 years old, seriously injured and could not do anything for his life. Several Civil Guard agents also went there and performed those alcohol and drug tests on the driver, which were negative.
From the Benemérita they have pointed out that this agent, who was driving her "private vehicle" when she ran over the pedestrian, "is not arrested or charged." The Traffic Group of the Civil Guard is carrying out the investigation of what happened, for which it must still carry out "expert tests", collect information and make other checks such as, for example, "the condition of the vehicle". All these tests, they explain from the Civil Guard, will be delivered once the investigations are completed to the Court and it will be the judge who has "the last word". However, the police force has pointed out that the "hypothesis" that is being considered at the moment "does not grant any responsibility" to the driver.
