The Civil Guard removes six illegal fish traps from the Arrecife marina

The Civil Guard removed six illegal fish traps from the Arrecife marina this Sunday. For this action, the Civil Guard had the collaboration of the Department of Environment of the capital's City Council, which was the one who alerted about the presence of these unauthorized fishing gears, with data provided by fishermen in the area.

"These are six illegal fish traps with dimensions outside the legal framework and without any type of identifying mark and/or beacon," according to reports from the City Council. The presence of a floating rope with fish traps tied together has also been detected, which "poses a danger to navigation," explained the councilor of the area, Carmen Delgado, adding that "at that time there were various species trapped."

"We were informed of the presence of these fish traps in a situation of irregularity due to the meters to which they were anchored and because they were not identified," said the head of the Environment in the City Council.

Delgado has shown her "absolute rejection of this type of practices that endanger the biodiversity of the Arrecife marina. "In the Department of Environment we will continue with our surveillance and denunciation of all types of illegal fishing gear or any other illegal action, thus ensuring the sustainability and recovery of the marine environment," said the mayor.
