The Civil Guard has processed 114 complaints against vacation homes and apartment complexes that did not comply with various precepts related to the regulations on lodging and accommodation activities. Specifically, as confirmed by the Civil Guard to La Voz, 41 businesses have been reported, among other things, for not keeping a documentary record of the people staying in them despite being obliged to do so as we are at level 4 of anti-terrorist alert.
The complaints are the result of inspections carried out by the Costa Teguise Civil Guard since last December in different homes offered mainly on different portals or Internet pages dedicated to vacation rentals. In this way, they discovered establishments and homes that committed alleged administrative irregularities related mostly to the execution of accommodation activities without the mandatory registration in the General Registry of Companies, Activities and Tourist Establishments, in addition to lacking the mandatory documentary records for this type of activities, both issues reflected in Law 7/1995, on Tourism Planning in the Canary Islands, and Law 4/2015, on the Protection of Citizen Security.
Sanctions
The Civil Guard points out that both laws punish these irregularities with financial penalties that can range between 30,000 and 300,000 euros, apart from other accessory penalties such as the suspension of the activity or the definitive closure, in the case of the first regulation; and fines between 601 and 30,000 euros for infringing the second law.
All complaints have been sent to the corresponding bodies of the public administration in charge of initiating and processing the corresponding sanctioning files, with 54 infractions being sent to the corresponding body of the Government of the Canary Islands and 60 in the case of Law 4/2015, which will be sent to the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands.
The Civil Guard warns that inspections continue at the different vacation complexes and apartments both in Teguise and Haría "due to the notable increase in the rental activity of vacation tourism".
