The Civil Guard has acted in three bazaars in Puerto del Carmen following complaints from several commercial brands and has seized a total of 1,100 counterfeit textile items, including luxury brand bags, t-shirts and football team trousers.
In addition, 166 metal plates with the logo of luxury commercial brands were seized, which were hidden in the payment counter and which, supposedly, were stamped on bags and small leather goods right at the time of purchase, "with the aim of evading quality controls in case of inspections by the corresponding authorities".
The intervention took place on April 4 and three managers of these shops must answer for a crime against industrial property.
The police actions began as a result of receiving several complaints from the lawyers representing several commercial brands, in which they reported the sale of counterfeit products that caused "economic damage to the brands they represented".
The Fiscal and Border Patrol (PAFIF) of Costa Teguise then began an investigation to "find out the establishments that were selling counterfeit products, resulting in the location of three clothing and accessories bazaars in the town of Puerto del Carmen, where their owners were selling allegedly counterfeit products under high-value commercial brands".
Therefore, a police device was coordinated in which three simultaneous inspections were carried out in the establishments related to the collaboration of a judicial expert in patents and trademarks who verified the quality and degree of falsification of the objects seized.
The market value of the withdrawn merchandise amounts to more than 226,000 euros, an amount claimed by the brands affected by the damages caused and the profits not obtained, with the investigated parties together with the objects seized at the disposal of the corresponding Arrecife duty court.
