The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist Group (GEDEX) of the Civil Guard in Lanzarote had to destroy this Sunday a hand grenade that was located on the seashore, more specifically in the Órzola slipway.
The finding was reported at 2:00 p.m. by the port security guard, who reported the place and condition in which the device was located. Immediately, Gedex and members of the Costa Teguise Civil Guard traveled to the scene, verifying that it was a hand grenade. "Immediately," according to a statement issued by the Civil Guard, "the appropriate security and protection measures were adopted, proceeding to its collection and destruction in a safe area near the location site."
After what happened, the Civil Guard has made public several tips to be followed by the population in case of locating "any unexploded military device." Thus, it recommends "not manipulating the device and preventing anyone from doing so," "moving away from the area where the explosive is located" and "immediately notifying the Civil Guard."
