The arrest of a fugitive by plainclothes civil guards with weapons causes a great scare in Arrecife

The arrest of a man wanted by the police carried out by two plainclothes civil guards who ended up drawing their weapons has caused a great scare among the citizens who were on Fajardo Street in Arrecife. "People saw two people with guns and thought something else," the Local Police Councilor of the capital, David Duarte, told La Voz, confirming that a good stir was stirred up.

According to reports from the Civil Guard, the agents, belonging to the Costa Teguise barracks, were at approximately 10:15 a.m. on Fajardo Street, in a second-hand shop, as they had learned that the man, against whom there was an arrest warrant for two theft crimes, frequented them to sell stolen objects. Just at that moment, the agents identified the vehicle related to this person on the street and proceeded to stop him. However, the driver, who was accompanied by another person, locked the car doors and fled, being chased along the street by the agents.

Tried to run over the agents

Given the traffic in the area, the vehicle was blocked on Fajardo Street, with the driver "reversing and moving forward trying to run over the agents." Seeing that a car was turning left onto a street, the driver decided to follow the same path, but the vehicle in front stopped, becoming trapped. In his attempt to escape, however, he began to push the other vehicle with his car. There, having already "obvious signs that they wanted to cause physical harm to escape," the agents drew their weapons to use the butt of them to break the car windows and access its interior, as it was "the only blunt object they had."

Finally, the two people occupying the vehicle were arrested and transferred to the Civil Guard barracks in Costa Teguise, for which support was requested from the National Police, as the two agents of the Civil Guard had "cuts on their hands and arms" and had to be taken to the hospital. However, at 2:30 p.m., the Civil Guard confirmed that they had already been discharged.

His companion was also arrested

E.J.P.S, of Spanish nationality and 49 years of age, in addition to the two theft crimes for which he already had an arrest warrant, is now accused of a crime of assault and disobedience to authority. Furthermore, according to the Civil Guard, he also has a history of crimes against property. His companion, S.A.Y., 31 years old and of foreign nationality, "who also actively resisted arrest," is charged with a crime of disobedience.

The Civil Guard has emphasized that the occupants of the car "fled knowing that they were being pursued by the Civil Guard," as they claim that the two agents "identified themselves from the first moment."
