The National Police of Arrecife arrested a 40-year-old man on January 7 as the alleged perpetrator of a brutal attack that occurred in the center of the capital, after which a person was left in a coma. According to the agents, both the alleged aggressor and the victim were consuming drugs when the fight broke out.
Antonio E.M., of Spanish nationality and 40 years of age, has several police records and, after his arrest as the alleged perpetrator of an assault, the judge decided to send him to provisional prison.
The events occurred on January 6 in an abandoned house located in the city center. Specifically, the aggression occurred in some properties "known by drug addicts as smoking dens". "They usually meet in this place in order to consume narcotic substances," the National Police indicates in its press release.
In a coma
A call from Cecoes around midnight on January 6 alerted the agents of the National Police Station in Arrecife. In it, it was reported that there was a fight between two individuals. The agents arrived at the indicated place and located an individual, who was lying on the ground and hidden with a blanket.
After an inspection, the police officers observed that this man presented injuries of "significant severity". For this reason, the presence of the emergency services was immediately required, who transferred the injured man to the General Hospital. There, he spent several days in a coma due to the attack suffered with a knife and other blunt objects.
The arrest
The National Police deployed a device to locate the perpetrator of the events. Several witnesses who were in this place confirmed that these two people were "consuming narcotic substances inside the smoking den", and for reasons that are unknown, they started a fight.
In the vacant lot where the events occurred, an ocular inspection was carried out in which they managed to recover two knives and a hammer, objects that were used during the fight, according to the National Police.
The police action was carried out by the Radio Patrol services of the Local Citizen Security Brigade, who later transferred the case to the Judicial Police Brigade. After arresting the alleged perpetrator of the attack, he was placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court number Two of Arrecife, which ordered his imprisonment.
