The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, has presented the construction license to the management of the Barceló La Galea hotel, whose remodeling works to become a 4-star hotel will presumably begin on September 5. "With the approval of the General Plan of Teguise and the firm commitment of private investors, we will make Costa Teguise a benchmark for urban renewal," declared the mayor, Oswaldo Betancort.
The reform and modernization project with category increase of the Barceló Hotel has a construction budget of around 6 million euros, an investment that will allow the rehabilitation and improvement of the La Galea apart-hotel, built in 2004 and which enjoys one of the best locations in the tourist area of Costa Teguise, located on the beachfront of Las Cucharas.
The Barceló La Galea apartments, which until now sold its 611 places to family tourism, will change its accommodation concept, since it will be transformed in a few months into a 4-star hotel for adults only, offering, according to the hotel director, Vicente Artero, a tourist accommodation "with a fantastic location, modern facilities, tranquility, excellent service, all open to the sea".
"This is an emerging segment with demand in the tourism market, and for which the Barceló chain has already successfully committed in the Balearic Islands and in Fuerteventura, although naturally we will maintain our accommodation offer for family tourism on the island", said Vicente Artero.
"The first of many projects"
The Councilor for Urban Planning of Teguise, Echedey Eugenio, has highlighted that the granting of this license implies "the opening of new investment opportunities and renovation of the tourist offer of one of the most important towns on the island and in the Canary Islands, in addition to allowing a recovery of the destination, which little by little is taking on greater dimensions and results thanks to these milestones".
"This is the first of many projects for the revitalization and recovery of Costa Teguise that will come from now on", wanted to highlight the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort. "And this is the work philosophy to follow, in which public management favors private initiative, and that this in turn opens new economic and business perspectives, which translate into modernization, prosperity and, of course, employment for citizens".
"We all build Teguise together and we must rebuild it together, public and private", concluded the mayor. In addition, the Local Government Board of the Teguise City Council approved three new licenses for the opening of three restaurants in the tourist area of Costa Teguise, "a further sign that economic and commercial activity is being generated in the area, also expanding its gastronomic offer", Betancort pointed out.
