Gives birth alone in the bathtub of a hotel in Puerto del Carmen

Initially, the hotel reception called the Red Cross because some guests had indicated that a woman was suffering from abdominal pain. It was 5:00 p.m. when the ambulance arrived at the facilities of the hotel in Puerto del Carmen where the young German couple who had requested help were staying. However, the surprise came when the staff of the humanitarian organization realized that it was a delivery in progress. A 19-year-old woman of German nationality, who was inside the bathtub of her hotel room, had given birth, alone, to a baby. A girl who was in perfect health.

Immediately, the Red Cross technicians provided first aid to both the mother and the baby, and requested the intervention of the medicalized ambulance of the Canary Emergency Service (SUC) so that both could receive medical assessment.

After verifying that they were in perfect condition, the mother and the newborn were transferred to the General Hospital of Lanzarote in the medicalized ambulance, accompanied by the father of the child, although he did so aboard the Red Cross ambulance, after suffering an emotional shock.

It hasn't been the first time

It so happens that just two months ago, on May 2, another woman also gave birth outside the hospital and it was the Red Cross who attended to her. In that case, it was a foreign woman, who went into labor in Playa Blanca and ended up giving birth inside the ambulance of that organization when it was near the Lanzarote Airport.

The documentation services of the Red Cross recalled, as a curious note, that every time births occur at the hands of the health personnel of that organization, they occur close in dates. In that way, a couple of years ago, in 2005, two other women gave birth in the same ambulance with barely a month of difference.
