Boat capsizing in the port of the Berrugo area

The Government of the Canary Islands has declared a pre-alert for marine pollution after the overturning of a 9-meter boat in the Berrugo area. The incident occurred in the Berrugo area near the Marina Rubicón marina on Monday morning.

According to the Emergency Consortium, when the boat turned over, the belongings it was carrying fell into the sea. Then, they proceeded to extract all the diesel canisters to prevent their contents from ending up spilling into the water.

The situation of pre-alert for marine pollution is declared by law in case of minimal risk of the existence of polluting spills until the removal of the boat from the water is carried out.

Incident with another boat

The strong wind and waves that Lanzarote has been suffering in recent hours have caused a sailboat to drift in Playa Blanca at around 8:00 p.m. this Sunday.

According to the Emergency Consortium, it was a steel sailboat of about 14 tons that had come loose from its mooring due to the storm. Once at the scene, they verified that there was no one inside and notified its owner, who appeared at the scene of the incident.
