A spectacular fire that broke out on Wednesday night on Tenderete street in Arrecife resulted in the rescue of five people and the evacuation of several homes. The incident, which occurred around 11:49 PM, mobilized the Security and Emergency Consortium personnel, alerted by the CECOES.
According to the Consortium, the fire originated in the building's stairwell, affecting the meter box and the handrail. The stairwell was completely filled with smoke, trapping several residents of three apartments located in the basement, who **could not get out due to the bars on the windows.**
Some people managed to escape by jumping out a ground-floor window while firefighters worked to free those who remained trapped. To do this, they used a hydraulic spreader to remove the bars, allowing the rescue of five residents.
Once the building was secured, firefighters proceeded to extinguish the fire, ventilate the apartments, cut off the water supply due to a leak, and disconnect the fuses from the exterior protection box. After completing the ventilation, the tenants were able to return to their homesThe National Police and Local Police collaborated in the rescue of one of the affected individuals. The Canary Islands Emergency Service evacuated five residents to the Molina Orosa hospital for smoke inhalation.
