National Police agents in Arrecife have arrested a 21-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of a violent robbery. The detainee, with no prior police record and of Moroccan nationality, "lunged at a young man and after a struggle managed to steal a chain he was wearing around his neck", the police force has stated.
The events unfolded after a young man called the 091 telephone number, stating that when he was leaving the beach, a man approached him and tried to violently steal the chain he was wearing around his neck. After a struggle between the two, he succeeded and ran away.
The police officers who arrived at the scene assisted the victim, who was taken to a nearby health center where he was treated for various scratches and abrasions.
Several police patrols in the surrounding area located the alleged perpetrator of the events, and after being recognized by the victim, he was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a violent robbery. After the corresponding police report was prepared, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority.
