A Maritime Rescue boat ran aground early this Monday in the Baja de la Lagarta area of Arrecife.

Specifically, it is the boat that intercepted a boat 13 miles from Órzola and transferred the 40 immigrants to Arrecife. The Salvamar Al Nair was returning from leaving the occupants of the boat at the Muelle de la Cebolla when it ran aground.

As confirmed by Maritime Rescue, during the early morning a tugboat was transferred from the port to the area to try to rescue the boat, without success.

After that, a device has been activated, with the Mizal boat, based in Gran Tarajal (Fuerteventura), being scheduled to be transferred to Lanzarote, as well as the Miguel de Cervantes tugboat from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Also, a special operations team from the Tenerife Maritime Rescue Center will also move to Lanzarote.

The rescue operation will be carried out with the next high tide, around 4:00 p.m. this Monday.
