Lito Guillén, historical representative of the taxi sector in Arrecife, dies

He died in the early hours of this Friday after suffering a long illness

The president of the Taxi Cooperative Society San Marcial of Arrecife, Manuel Guillén, known as Lito Guillén, has died in the early hours of this Friday, March 7 in Lanzarote. According to La Voz, Guillén has died after suffering a long illness.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has publicly lamented "this heartfelt loss among taxi professionals in the capital and the entire island of Lanzarote, where Guillén stood out for being a defender of the guild."

He also added that he "always found dialogue, respect, and institutional collaboration with the president of the taxi drivers of Arrecife during this time of mandate as first mayor."

Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, has expressed in statements to this medium his deepest condolences to the family and relatives of Lito de Guillén, whom he has defined as "a reference of transport on the island."

For his part, the Councilor of Transport of the City Council of Arrecife, Mario Gonzalez Altube, has thanked Lito for "the cordiality, respect, dialogue and always being collaborative with the City Council." Thus, he has sent a big hug to his family, friends and colleagues in the taxi sector, whom he has encouraged to "find peace and comfort in this difficult time."

In 2021, Lito Guillén received the Arrecife Tourism Award 2021 as representative of the San Marcial Cooperative.

 

Condolences

Astrid Pérez, president of the PP of Lanzarote, "deeply regrets" the death of Lito Guillén. "In these difficult times, in my name and in that of the Popular Party of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, I want to express our condolences to his family, friends and professional colleagues in the taxi sector," he continued.

In addition, he stated that "for those of us who had the opportunity to know Lito, we know of his commitment to the sector and his always active and vindictive defense of an essential service for the city of Arrecife."

"Always in the fight, Lito defended until the end, with respect and vehemence, what he believed in. Rest in peace," concluded the president of the populars of Lanzarote.

For its part, the Cabildo of Lanzarote has expressed "its deep regret for the death of Manuel Guillén, who was a key figure in the defense and improvement of the taxi sector on the island. The Island Institution conveys its deepest condolences to his wife, children and other relatives, as well as to his colleagues and friends in the transport sector."

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, wanted to highlight the career of Lito Guillén and his tireless work in favor of the taxi drivers' collective, ensuring that his loss leaves a great void in the field of transport on the island. "With the death of Lito Guillén, the Cabildo loses a great ally when it comes to finding solutions to the challenges facing the sector. His commitment and effort were fundamental to improve the taxi service in Lanzarote, always with the intention of offering a quality service to residents and visitors," said Betancort.

Likewise, the PSOE has also expressed "its deep regret" for the death of Guillén, highlighting that "he has left an important legacy in the field of public transport in the city and whose career was characterized by his firm commitment to improving the taxi service and defending the rights of professionals in the sector."

The spokesman for the PSOE in Arrecife, Alfredo Mendoza, has conveyed his condolences and those of the entire socialist organization to family, friends and professional colleagues. "Lito was a tireless person in the fight for the rights of the taxi sector in Arrecife. His dedication and commitment have been fundamental to the growth and modernization of this essential service for our city. Today we say goodbye to a great professional and a person who always believed in collective work to improve Arrecife," said Mendoza.
