Media colleagues from the island and family members paid posthumous tribute this Sunday on Famara beach to journalist Arturo Escarda, who drowned last Friday while trying to rescue a female friend from the sea.

An event attended by his father, Nicolás Escarda, and his girlfriend Ana Korabanova, which began with a minute of silence in memory of the deceased journalist, and immediately afterwards, attendees threw numerous flowers into the sea in his memory.

This Monday at 11:00 a.m., another farewell ceremony will be held at the Mémora funeral home in Arrecife, where Arturo Escarda's body will be cremated. The family has also informed the EFE Agency that the journalist's ashes will be transferred to Madrid, where they will be deposited next to the coffin of his mother, Valeria Piedra, who died a year and a half ago from cancer.

Arturo Escarda was born in Russia and grew up between Moscow, the Canary Islands and Madrid, where he studied journalism. It was in the Canary Islands, a place he returned to frequently, where he trained as a journalist and where he worked for six years in media outlets such as La Voz de Lanzarote, Archipiélago TV, Crónicas de Lanzarote and Televisión Canaria.
