Tourists staying at the Occidental Alegro Oasis Hotel in Costa Teguise had a good scare this Monday morning, as they had to leave their rooms in a hurry due to the fire declared on the fourth floor of the establishment. Two people had to be evacuated to the General Hospital of Lanzarote suffering from intoxication due to smoke inhalation.
According to the Cabildo, the flames started in the room used for storing cleaning products. Although the cause that started the fire is unknown, the possibility that one of the flammable products intended for cleaning was the trigger for the flames is being considered. The smoke caused by the flames on the fourth floor spread to the fifth floor of the building.
The 112 Emergency Coordination Center received the alert at 9:44 minutes and the firefighters managed to extinguish the fire before 12:00 noon, at which time the hotel guests began to be relocated.
