Puerto del Carmen has hosted a unique demonstration, as a group of fairground workers has gathered on the stage of the town's festivities to ask the authorities not to suspend the search for a boat that has disappeared in the waters between Tenerife and La Gomera.
"One of the crew members is my son-in-law," Antonio Castro explains to La Voz. The three missing men went fishing fourteen days ago and there is still no news of what may have happened to them. "All we ask is that they continue the search because there are three families devastated," demanded Castro, who also assures that the three sailors are still alive, since no remains of them have been found in the sea, "so we still have hope."
Apparently, the three crew members of the boat had gone fishing and had caught a 33-kilo fish, but when they decided to return home they spotted a marlin (one of the largest fish in the sea) and decided to fish it. "Since then, when he called home to tell us about it, we haven't heard from him again," clarifies Antonio Castro, a relative of one of the missing fishermen.
Rescue teams from maritime rescue and security forces are participating in the rescue efforts. "There are four boats, four helicopters, three or four small planes and an Army Hercules that patrols at night," Castro commented. "All we ask is that they do not suspend the search because although we do not officially know this decision, we are hearing rumors on the street."
