The website of the newspaper "Gara" publishes this Monday a statement from the terrorist group ETA in which it announces a "permanent, general and verifiable" ceasefire. ETA states that it has a "firm commitment" to a "definitive" solution process and to "the end" of the armed struggle. In recent weeks, rumors that ETA could announce this ceasefire had been increasing and finally, with this statement, the news has been confirmed.
In the declaration, written in three languages (Basque, Spanish and English) and recorded on video in the first two, ETA alludes to the Brussels Declaration and the Gernika Agreement and emphasizes the need to offer a "fair and democratic" solution to the conflict, according to "Gara". "The resolution will come from a democratic process that has dialogue and negotiation as instruments, and whose north is the popular will", according to the statement advanced by the website of the Basque newspaper.
In this same statement, ETA urges to act "with historical responsibility", while calling on the Spanish and French authorities "to deactivate any repressive measure and put aside once and for all the denial of Euskal Herria".
