A joint operation by the National Police and the Civil Guard has made it possible to dismantle "an important international organization based on the island of Gran Canaria with ramifications both in the rest of the islands of the archipelago, and in the neighboring country of Morocco, which focused its activities on the introduction of illegal immigrants and hashish in the Canary archipelago through the so-called narco-boats."
The investigation began at the beginning of the year, according to the National Police, and the first arrests took place in Lanzarote. As they explain in a statement, last September they learned that this organization had introduced a shipment of narcotic substances in a boat, in which illegal immigrants were also traveling.
After establishing a device, the agents located a "patera chalet", where the organization "had the immigrants detained, including women and minors, who were being transferred to the island's airport to give them a way out to the peninsula." In addition, a house occupied by the main suspects was also located, where the seized narcotic substance was found.
In total, two searches were carried out in Lanzarote and five people were arrested, in addition to eleven immigrants in an irregular situation, while in Gran Canaria six searches were carried out and another five people were arrested.
In addition, the agents seized a total of 420 kilograms of hashish, as well as 140 grams of cocaine, 17,000 euros in cash and various effects used in the trafficking of narcotic substances, such as scales, various "cutting" substances, etc. To this must be added several high-end vehicles, which the accused had in the name of other people, and also a zodiac-type boat.
All detainees and seized effects were placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court Number 8 of Las Palmas, which ordered the imprisonment of the detainees, with the immigrants being admitted to the foreign internment center to process the corresponding expulsion procedure.
