The Lanzarote Emergency Consortium has reported the presence of Portuguese caravels this Friday, March 20, on several beaches in the south of Lanzarote.

Specifically, these marine organisms have been located on the beach of La Barrilla, Playa Grande and Los Pocillos, where their presence has been warned about to avoid incidents with bathers and people walking along the shore.

From the Consortium they recall that the Portuguese man o' war can cause painful stings, so it is recommended not to touch them or approach them, even when they appear stranded on the sand.

Given this situation, the population is requested to extreme caution on the beaches and to follow at all times the indications of the emergency services and of the persons responsible for surveillance on the coast.
