AEGC denounces that the 'SIVE' of Lanzarote has been burned in an act of "sabotage"

The Spanish Association of Civil Guards has stated that it was a strategy "to prevent its entry into operation and hinder the criminal activities of these criminal organizations"

The Spanish Association of Civil Guards (AEGC) denounces that the SIVE of Lanzarote will not be operational since it was burned a few days ago in "an act of sabotage."

The association recalls that a few weeks ago the Minister of the Presidency and Security of the Canary Islands Government, Nieves Lady Barreto, announced that the SIVE of Lanzarote "would come into operation before the end of this month," after eight years dozing in a box, "this important instrument for monitoring the Canary coast would finally come into service" and that the Spanish Association of Civil Guards (AEGC) has been demanding all these years.

"Well, finally what seemed like good news has turned into smoke, and never better said because this Tuesday the SIVE of Lanzarote has been consumed by flames without having provided even a minute of service," they lament. The association's demands during all these years for this instrument to be installed "was not a whim," they have reported. "Our claim was justified in that this instrument is not only useful for the fight against drug trafficking, but it also saves lives, the lives of all those migrants who fall into the hands of the mafias that engage in human trafficking, who lose their lives seeking the dream of reaching a better world," he points out.

But also, "the fact that this facility has been set on fire gives us the reason for its importance in fighting these mafias." Because "it is quite clear that this has been an act of sabotage to prevent its entry into operation and therefore hinder the criminal activities of these criminal organizations."

From AEGC we now hope that "another eight years do not have to pass for another device to be bought and many more for it to be installed." "Because if we add the lack of personnel we have in the Civil Guard to the non-existence of 'SIVE', the consequences are what we already warned and are now suffering: avalanche of boats and free circulation of drug traffickers."
