A Czech tourist, 48 years old, drowned on Wednesday evening in the waters of Famara. Several security forces intervened in his search, which lasted for more than two hours. Finally, the helicopter located him and took him out of the water. Once on land, the health personnel confirmed the death. According to the Consortium, it was the first day of vacation for this man, who was going to spend two weeks on the island.
A call around 8:00 p.m. alerted the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Government of the Canary Islands that they could not locate a person who was bathing in the sea. A search operation was then activated in which firefighters from the Security and Emergency Consortium, Emerlan and REN personnel, agents of the Civil Guard and the Local Police collaborated.
In addition, 112 moved an ambulance to the area and requested the presence of the Maritime Rescue helicopter, which after 10:00 p.m. located the affected person in the sea and transferred him to the island's airport. Once on land, the SUC personnel confirmed the death of the swimmer, whose body remained under the custody of the Civil Guard until the arrival of the judicial authority.
