A taxi driver from Arrecife handed over to the police station in the capital of Lanzarote yesterday morning a python snake of one meter and twenty centimeters long that a client had forgotten inside the taxi.
According to police sources who spoke with the Efe Agency, the discovery of the snake occurred this morning after the taxi driver noticed its presence inside a sports bag that a client who had been transferred to the town of Puerto del Carmen, in the municipality of Tías, had forgotten in the vehicle.
After the discovery of the snake, the officials on duty at the Arrecife police station informed the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Civil Guard, whose agents examined the animal, which turned out to be an 'albinus phitom molorus' snake.
According to sources close to the case, the animal, which has been handed over to Rancho Texas for the time being, is at the disposal of the general administrator of Customs in the Canary Islands and its owner has not been located for the time being as the animal lacks an identifying microchip.
