A small boat with 33 adults and 3 possible minors lands in Fuerteventura

On Monday afternoon, around 5:00 p.m., a fishing boat reported that a small boat was in the open sea, without a fixed course, sailing aimlessly. Immediately, the Helimer Canarias helicopter, the "Baltico" patrol boat of the Civil Guard and a Maritime Rescue boat set off in search and assistance.

It was around midnight when the boat was located at a distance of 60 kilometers northwest of the east coast of Fuerteventura. The Civil Guard rescued all its occupants, who were "transferred" to the Maritime Rescue boat that took them to land, arriving at the Gran Tarajal Pier, around 01:45 this morning.

The immigrants, all men, 33 adults and 3 possible minors between 16 and 17 years old, turned out to be of sub-Saharan origin.

The list of nationalities that make up this group of immigrants is as follows. 10 are from Ivory Coast, 9 from Niger, 3 from Gambia, 3 from Burkina Faso, 3 from Chad, 3 from Tongo, 2 from Guinea, 1 from Rwanda, 1 from Sierra Leone and 1 from Liberia.

Upon arrival on land, one of the immigrants presented symptoms of hypothermia and was attended by health personnel. The rest were in good condition, despite exhaustion and fatigue from the long journey from the African coasts.

The group of undocumented immigrants was attended by members of the Red Cross beach care device. The Civil Guard transferred the entire group to the Foreigners Internment Center of 'El Matorral'.
